| BACKGROUND
In an Indian context, Mysore appears like a little cosy town. But actually it is the size of Denmarks capital with one million inhabitants. In the old days, Mysore was the capital of the kingdom Mysore, and the maharaja (maha = big, raja = king) lived at an incredible palace in the center of town.

Mysore
We arrive in Mysore on Christmas day or “Christmas Festival”, as everyone calls it here. It is a much more attractive city than anything else we've seen in South India so far.

Nice and calm streets.

Baba Singh our lovely auto-chauffeur. So helpful, dependable, and good at his job. |
At the hotel, we meet 29 year-old Suresh who offers to help me find a shop in town where they sell computers assesories. At this point, we actually don't know exactly where to go next in India. I'm thinking of going up to Goa, after some more time in Mysore. Padma suggests to try to find a certain holy place. So without any address or phone number, our taxidriver, Baba, and Suresh take us on a long search in the outskirts of town, asking around. Eventually, we succeed in finding it.
Later on, we pay a short visit at the biggest ashram I have seen in India so far, with a gigantic auditorium.

In the afternoon, Suresh invites us to his home to cook us lunch and make us coffee. We listen to Nepalese and Indian pop music, and learn about the many different jobs he has had at different hotels. Thanks for a relaxed and memorable afternoon there, Suresh! |

When there is room in the heart, hospitality does not depend on the amount of square meters in the living room. |
